karel_atorganThe Cleveland Chapter of the American Guild of Organists will honor Karel Paukert, long-time Organist and Choirmaster at St. Paul’s, on Sunday, January 29, at 4 p.m. The afternoon will have three parts:

At 4 p.m., Timothy Robson, Karel’s friend, fellow organist and Associate Director for Academic Engagement at the Kelvin Smith Library at CWRU, will interview Karel and open the floor for a brief time of Q & A about his past musical endeavors as well as his early years in the former Czechoslovakia and his immigration to the United States.

Next, there will be a brief concert in the Nave featuring the world premiere of “Labyrinths,” a work by Dr. Frank Wiley, Karel’s friend of many years and professor at Kent State University. The piece will reflect on the rich musical tradition at St. Paul’s and will feature all three organs, solo voices, choir, and instrumentalists, theatrical lighting, movement, and improvisation.

A reception to share conversation and fellowship will follow the concert. Plan to join us as we celebrate the presence of Karel Paukert in our lives here at St. Paul’s.
