The Adult Forum Spring Series

Author and Presbyterian minister Frederick Buechner once wrote “All theology…is at its heart autobiography.” The Merriam Webster dictionary defines theology as “the study of religious faith, practice and experience: the study of God and God’s relation to the world.” Taken together, we understand that as we grow in our faith, as we grow in our knowledge and love of God, we are creating our own theology. We tell these stories to each other through what we formally call autobiography.

On six Sundays this spring, we will hear fellow parishioners’ autobiographies of their faith journeys, and so grow our own personal theologies as a result.

Please join us for this Adult Forum series Growing in Faith: Sharing Our Stories on Sundays from 10:10 to 11 a.m. in the Dining Room, where we will hear these stories. All are welcome!

April 17: Spirituality and Fly-Fishing – John Orlock will present a brief overview of the literature of fly-fishing, and share how the both the sport and its authors have expanded and enriched dimensions of his spirituality.  John is a professor of English at Case Western Reserve University, where he teaches a popular undergraduate seminar on the metaphysics of fly-fishing.

April 24: Spirituality and Music – Paul Ferguson, musician and composer, will talk about music, composing and its connection to his faith journey. Paul is the composer/arranger and one of the performers of our popular Jazz Vespers service, to be offered this year on Sunday, May 1 at 5 p.m.

May 1: Spirituality and Thomas Merton – Author and retreat leader James Finley will talk to us about his mentor Thomas Merton and the lessons he learned from him and the monastic life.

May 8: Spirituality and Business – Jackie Acho LeMay and the Rev. Jeanne Leinbach will discuss their growing faith and how it changed the focus of their work lives.
