St. Paul’s Senior Choir will sing Evensong on Sunday, March 1, at 5 p.m.
Music by Herbert Howells. All are welcome.
Since the late middle ages “evensong” has been the popular name for vespers, one of the eight daily offices still observed in monastic communities. The Anglican “Evening Prayer” service appeared in the first Book of Common Prayer in 1549 and is found on page 61 of our current BCP. When this prayer service is sung instead of said, it is called “Evensong.” The chants used in the service have their roots in ancient Hebrew rites.
