Join us on five Sundays in Lent for this series led by the Rev. Dr. Harold T. Lewis, Interim Rector, based on his book Christian Social Witness. The Adult Forum meets at 10 a.m. in the Dining Room. Dr. Lewis’ book is available for $10 in the Parish Office.
February 22 — Money (Chapter 4)
We live in a world governed and dominated by Mammon, in which 20% of the population controls 83% of the world’s wealth. We will examine how liberation theology has been the church’s voice as it addresses economic injustice.
March 1 — Race (Chapter 5)
A short, working definition of racism is “prejudice coupled with power.” Has the sin of racism infected a church that preaches equality and love of neighbor?
March 8 —Gender (Chapter 6)
While there is ample evidence to suggest that Jesus was a feminist, the church has nevertheless been guided by Pauline writings that insist that women must be subordinate to men. Why? Why is women’s ordination such a new phenomenon?
March 15 — Sex (Chapter 7)
Does the Bible categorically condemn homosexuality and homosexual behavior? Is the church justified in loving and accepting gays and lesbians as members and as clergy?
March 22 — More Sex
Since the publication of CSW, gay marriages have become the law of the land in most states, and the Episcopal Church has authorized rites for same-sex marriages. Is the church being faithful to Scripture and tradition?
