The Ars organi Fall Festival celebrating the organs at St. Paul’s, Cleveland Heights, continues October 4-6 with recital programs and discussions honoring Anton Heiller (1923-1979), the charismatic Austrian who changed the European and American organ scene with his music making. Organist Jay Peterson and soprano Madelyn Hasebein will perform a recital on Friday, October 4, at 7:30 p.m. featuring works by J.S. Bach, G. Boehm, M. Reger, P. Hindemith and A. Heiller.
Fulbright Scholars Peterson and Christa Rakich were Mr. Heiller’s students at the Musikakademie in Vienna. The two will share remembrances of Heiller as a remarkable organist, composer, conductor and musical catalyst in a panel discussion moderated by Paukert on Saturday, October 5, at 2 p.m.
Rakich will offer a program of works by P. Hindemith, J.S. Bach and A. Heiller on Sunday, October 6, at 3 p.m.
All events are free and made possible by grants from the Ingalls Foundation and the Charles H. Teare and Clifford K. Kern Music fund at the Cleveland Foundation. For more information and event dates, check St. Paul’s music calendar.
