James David Christie (Oberlin Conservatory of Music), in his program Splendors of the Baroque, assisted by the members of Collegium Musicum, directed by Steven Plank – September 19, 7:30 p.m. – will recreate the experience of a worshiper in the 17th century. The major portion of the program will feature solo pieces that will explore all stops of the Hradetzky organ.
A discussion with Christie and Paukert at 6:50 p.m. prior to the recital will reveal some interesting facts about this instrument.
A brief rededication of the organ by St. Paul’s rector, Jeanne Leinbach, will precede the program.
This two week series of concerts and talks has been arranged by St. Paul’s organist and choirmaster Karel Paukert as a tribute to St. Paul’s fine instruments. Ars organi features renowned organists and composers offering a schedule of programs to appeal to a wide range of audiences. See the full schedule here.
